INSPIRATIONAL STORIES

This 2018 marked my 22nd year as EMTEPH employee. Loyal as it seems yet staying for long continuously gives me a sense of fulfillment.

I reminisced experiences in the company which are mixture of opportunities, challenges, and lessons learned. Great opportunities are being sent overseas for technical trainings, business trips and recently, the My Innovation Competition. There are also out of town business trips and trainings. Challenges, when schedules are so hectic for preparation for ISO 9002 certification back in 1998 and the tasks of audit reply completion for submission to customers. I remember those “eyebags” working graveyard shift in the company during these periods. On the other hand, failures gave me lessons learned that made me grow and became resilient.

One thing my parent taught me is loyalty. I guess this has its advantage and disadvantage. Jumping from one career to another may bring financial gains; however, I value more the accomplishment that I have contributed to the growth of the Company.

Having seen EMTEPH twenty years ago sprung from grassland in the middle of nowhere, to the biggest relay manufacturing plant in the world, I feel a sense of accomplishment.

The hard work and the countless late night problem solving sessions have borne its fruits. Finally, there is a feeling of nationalism, knowing that EMTEPH has given thousands of jobs to Filipinos; I think I certainly did my part in helping our economy.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity… He has made everything beautiful in its time.

How time flies, I started under the Human Resources Department which was housed in Pacific Star Building in Makati. Back then we were busy hiring employees for our Laguna Plant. When the office transferred to LISP II, my recruitment function expanded to include Training, then Compensation and Benefits and when EMDD spun-off from NEC Components, Employee relations and General Services/Medical Services were added to my job.

EMTEPH was not the first company I worked for, it is actually my third company. I am thankful being an employee of EMTEPH where my career has grown together with the company. A lot of unforgettable experiences like my first local plane ride to do recruitment in the Visayas. My several business trips in different ASEAN countries. My first overnight vigil overseeing payroll (glad that problematic time was over). My first delivery of Two-Way Management Training as a Trainer. Don’t get me wrong, its not all sunshine, and good job results. There are also frustrations, stressful down side of the story, but those are all part of the past and learning experience as part of the spices of life and of growing.

Being a part of HR is a continuous challenge, there is no boring moment as each day is full of surprises, some are good and others I wished were just some dreams. I look forward to learning more with this direction towards localization and as my responsibilities increased, the desire to transfer my knowledge with the hopes to inspire my colleagues keeps me going. Let me share a verse I made personal to help me remain strong, “whatever I do in words or in deed, I do it for the glory of God, knowing that my labor in the Lord will not be in vain”.

How I achieved all of these is because of my mentors, my previous superiors who had guided me in my work and of course the competent colleagues I have and had in HR. Without the collaboration of each members of the HR team, we will not have survived the challenges we had.

I take pride of being among the pioneers of this company and having been with the Human Resources Department, I believe we have created a legacy worth sharing to our juniors. Let me borrow this line from an unknown author: Ïn HR, you will never be king or queen, but, you will be the maker.
